Senators Alan Bates (D-Ashland) and Ben Westlund (D-Bend), co-chairs of the Senate Special Committee on Health Care Reform, are traveling around the state to talk about their efforts to contain costs and increase health care coverage in Oregon.

During the interim, they co-chaired the Senate Commission on Health Care Access and Affordability that produced a framework for comprehensive reform that has been introduced as Senate Bill 329.

Their committee is currently considering SB 329 along with other health care proposals including Senate Bill 27 introduced by Governor John Kitzhaber and proposals put forth by the Oregon Health Policy Commission and the Small Business Council.

The proposals have many similarities and all agree that everyone needs affordable health services. The Senate committee, with the help of the House Subcommittee on Health Care Access, chaired by Rep. Mitch Greenlick, will combine the best aspects in these proposals into SB 329 to provide coverage and contain costs.

The tour is a chance for Oregonians to learn about the current concepts of health care reform and how they can help.
