"Nappy Sunrae Crown" by Mona Scott, Book Reading & Signing

Reading and Book Signing

 Saturday, May 9, 2009, 2:00pm

The character in the book is an African American girl aged eight, by the name of Sunrae Crown. She shares the different ways her natural coarse hair is treated; i.e curled, straighten with a hot comb or cream straightener. It appears that her natural coarse hair is unacceptable and is easier managed when it is straight. She is not happy with what is done to her hair. The illustrations by Mr. Scott present a true and fun vision of her hair journey.

She accepts her natural hair, because she learned about her hair texture from books she read about African American heritage.  Sunrae shares a brief historical background about African American hair texture at the end of the book.

Audience participation and hands on activity will be presented at this event. Sooo, come and read, share and play with Sunrae.
