Battle of the Books 2008

Don9t Miss the LWMCP Culminating Event of 2007-2008.....

The LWMCP Battle of the Books Competition

When: May 19, 2008

Where: 1212 East 59th Street (Ida Noyes Hall at the University of Chicago)

Time: 9am-12:30pm

Come join us as we cheer on students who will be competing on the strength of knowledge!

Students from more than 25 LWMCP schools have read a series of novels and will be competing with each other to answer questions directly from their recent reads.  Some contestents prepared through literature circles while others excercised their reading skills through after/before school book clubs.  However these students read, they will now be put to a bit of healthy competition that will test their true academic strength.

In addition to rounds of the Battle of the Books competition, students of the globalization project (iEarn) will display their writings and findings that were done as a result of collaborating with students from different parts of the world.  Each display will be judged according to evidence of higher order thinking skills and an inreased level of cultural awareness.  Come see these students9 horizon expand as they present their internationally developed communication displays.

We also have students of Writer9s Theatre that will perform plays from their own student written scripts!

The awards ceremony at the end of the event will recognize Battle of the Books competition winners, iEarn display winners, and it will also recognize winners who entered the LWMCP Poetry Month competition, which was under the theme of "My Neighborhood, My Chicago".

So, come out and join us for a books bonanza and show your support*!

*Since more schools are participating this year, the hall can only hold five students per team. Please send only 5 students.

*MCLTs will register their students.

*MCLTs that do not have students attending the event are welcome but are not expected to attend.  We do ask that these MCLTs volunteer in some capacity while also viewing the event.

*There should be one adult for every five children.  If you do not have enough MCLTs or teachers to cover your children, please register a parent to substitute for a teacher.

*Teachers can bring cameras and lunch will be provided for students, teachers, and guests.
