Studies on women and homelessness have found that 50 percent of homeless women and children are fleeing abuse. And, women with mental illness and substance addictions are more likely to be victims of crime and homelessness. The Women’s Shelter exists to help women facing these very challenges. The mission of the Women’s Shelter is to assist women who are in crisis. Residents of the shelter bring a complex array of problems, including addiction, mental illness, and a history of trauma and abuse. The Shelter’s programs offer women services to address myriad issues, ranging from employment, to personal finances, to education. The Shelter depends on contributions from individuals, civic groups, and the faith community for the majority of its funding.Warm Spirit Independent Consultants Sonya Daniels and Marcia Davis Taylor will host the Serenity Sanctuary during the benefit event.
