Registration has ended.  Please review the workshop descriptions below if you wish to register onsite on Saturday.  Bring a list of workshops you wish to attend to speed the registration process.  We will have some extra lunches ordered for the projected number of onsite attendees, however you will not have a food choice

Session 1

·         101 – Special Recognition  and Service Awards and Programs

Find out what awards are offered by the National, State and District PTA. Awards to be discussed are Principal of the Year, Above and Beyond, Volunteer of the Year, Educator of Distinction and Life Service Awards. Hear about what it takes to qualify for the LaPTA Outstanding Unit and Honor Unit. ·         102 – Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety

·         103 – Conflict Management

·         104 – Treasurer – the ABC’s and Ones, Fives and Tens

Writing checks, making deposits and getting proper documentation for expenditures are just the beginning. This workshop will cover all the aspects of a treasurer’s job including important information about IRS form 990. Learn the responsibilities of other board members when it comes to the budget, signing checks and reviewing bank statements. ·         105 – Cultural Arts (Part 1 of 2)

This workshop will outline the guidelines and rules for the Reflections program. Tips and timeline will be given. Would you like to encourage more student and school participation in this program? Are you thinking about starting this program at your school? This workshop will provide valuable ideas on how to enhance or begin the program. Session 2

·         201 – First Time Presidents

Terri will give you tips to run your local units, from working with parents and teachers to running an effective meeting. She will cover the basics of the President’s position to start your year off right. President’s binders will be given out at this session as well. ·         202 – Event Fundraising

Come join in an interactive discussion to find out what is working (or not working) in and around our district. Are there any new things going on in the fundraising world? Grow your membership and bring the relationship between school and home closer. Secretaries are the heart of an organization when it comes to the legal documentation of an organization’s business. Recording the minutes for your unit is extremely important. Leaders can play important roles in inspiring others to take action, get involved and accomplish new things. ·         306 – Newsletter and Media Relations

Make sure your parents are interested and entertained by your newsletter. Learn how to gather the information from your board, school staff and outside resources. ·         401 –  Grant Writing – Finding money for your PTA

Familiarize yourself with places to look for grants, what to look for and the basics of grant application. Learn the “language of grant writing” so that the grant announcements make sense and you can seek additional funding for your PTA projects or programs. Listen to teens in our local High Schools tell us what they think PTA’s can do to help their schools. This is a question and answer moderated panel discussion. Bylaws vs. Standing Rules, gain a better understanding of the difference between bylaws and standing rules and how these documents can be easily prepared and used.
