Jack Chapman, former Jesuit monk, now guru in streetwise interviewing and salary negotiating , will take us through a journey to enlightenment. Jack will provide the key principles that have enabled clients to obtain jobs they should never have gotten. They got those jobs not because they were more “qualified,” but because they sold their special strengths better than the competition sold theirs. Through his Streetwise Guide to Job Interviewing he’ll demonstrate how to win a job offer by knowing the right answers to the [only] five questions employers ask.  By training job seekers to negotiate effectively, he’s enabled hundreds of clients to negotiate for tens of thousands more than they had expected. As Jack puts it, “I learned by trial and error, you can learn it by Trial and Success!”

Jack has stated, “I’ve made winning at salary negotiations as easy as following five simple rules. I interviewed the top 22 brains in the field and downloaded all their negotiating savvy. I interviewed personnel from big and small companies and downloaded their methods. Then I worked with more than 2000 clients and encountered almost every negotiating situation known to man. I put it all in one book and distilled it to its essence. The people who have negotiated an extra $10,000 to $100,000 have included waitresses, retail clerks, janitors, purchasing agents, salespeople, CEOs, CFOs, telemarketers, teachers, social workers, and ministers. Those who practice the principles will get results."

Numerous members of the Puget Sound Career Development Association have heard Jack present at conferences and know that he delivers. Jack has a special way of explaining concepts so that anyone can understand them and put them into practice. Participants will come out of the workshop confident that they and their clients can obtain better offers.

Plan to purchase Jack’s book Negotiate Your Salary several weeks before the workshop and study it. The more you understand the principles before you walk into the workshop, the more you’ll benefit from it.

He is the author of the best-selling book Negotiating Your Salary: How to Make $1000 a Minute, which has become known as the “bible” of salary negotiations. It has sold more than 250,000 copies in print and tape. Jack's cassette tape seminar, How to Beat the System and Get a Raise, has helped many people increase their earnings without having to change jobs.

Jack is frequently quoted in the press including this portion of a Wall Street Journal article dated March 15, 2009 covering how to get a raise in tough times.

The layoffs of other workers can create an opportunity for a raise for those who are still employed, says Jack Chapman, a salary-negotiation coach based in Wilmette, Ill. “If you are still there, you are one of the people they still value,” he says. “The work does get spread around and you are asked to do more with less.”

Make your accomplishments clear to your boss, experts say. "In tough times, the people that companies want to reward are the people who are producing value for them," Mr. Chapman says. "If there is some value you can produce and other people can't, that makes you more eligible for a raise. Focus on making yourself indispensable."
