The Fall Medicare Updates Workshop has become a tradition, of special interest to SHIBA Volunteers, Social Workers, Case Managers, Discharge Planners, Medicare Specialists, and other professionals who assist people with Medicare.

Those are the basics.  Some of us need more.  Are you a SHIBA Volunteer or a person who works IN DEPTH with people who have Medicare - do you enroll them in health plans or "Extra Help", or help them solve problems with Medicare benefits or coverage?  This is an additional workshop day for SHIBA volunteers and those who work with clients at that level, to practice with casework situations they will encounter.  This additional workshop will be held September 3rd in Salem.

Instructors include: Andrew Tartella and Alma Hardy, Outreach and Education Coordinators for CMS Region 10; and Lisa Emerson, Cynthia Hylton and Carol Barnard from the Oregon SHIBA Program.

The day's agenda includes:

v    Medicare case examples for hands-on, small group problem solving

v    Demonstration: use of Internet, CD, and other information sources

v    Updates for 2010, including MIPPA provisions

v    Opportunity to meet colleagues who work with Medicare issues

Want to attend?  Here's how:

v Register, using this website.  Make sure you are registering for the Casework workshop.  If you want one of the other Basic workshops, go back to those event pages. (Encourage your co-workers to do their own sign-up if possible so our attendance count is accurate)

v Come to the event.  Parking is available (closest is the Purple Lot - for a campus map, visit ) , and parking permits are available at no charge for people attending on-campus events.    Cherriots bus line is #11-Lancaster.  This facility is accessible to persons with disabilities, but please let us know if you need additional accomodations.

v Lunch and breaks are "on your own".   You are welcome to bring your lunch.

No space?  Need more information?

We are expecting this workshop to fill up fast.

++There may be room in Portland or Salem at the Fall Updates Workshops on September 1st and September 2nd.  These provide more basic Medicare information.  To register, follow one of these links (Sept 1)or (Sept 2) to check space.
