Rails Bootup: Intro to Ruby on Rails

If you've been hearing about Ruby on Rails and wondering what all the fuss is about, come spend a Saturday learning Ruby on Rails with a group of experienced Rails developers as your guide. The program will outline the major pieces of Rails and delve into the practial aspects of building web applications with the framework. Hands-on work on your own laptop will be encouraged throughout the work session. Lunch will be brought in (a vegetarian option will be available). Damon Clinkscales

Damon is a software engineer at VitalSource Technologies, a leading provider of end-to-end software solutions in the higher education digital book market. An irrepressible ideas man, he spends some of his spare time pursuing side projects in coffeehouses around Austin. His latest project is a mashup called SnapTweet which makes it simple to share your Flickr photos on Twitter. He is also the leader of the Austin on Rails user group, which he co-founded in 2005.

Edward Cruz

Edward's day job is working as a grizzled IT veteran specializing in e-commerce implementations. His passion is in finding ways to extend current web technologies into everyday human endeavors in ways that are collaborative, cooperative, and progressive. His latest project, Molecular Thinking, is an accidental web 2.0 site that enables collaborative online brainstorming. He also leads the Ideation subgroup of Bootstrap Austin.

Mike Perham

Mike is a Software Engineer at FiveRuns. He's a member of the Apache project and has been developing open source software since 1995. He loves racing motorcycles and learning new technologies, especially anything that makes building web-based applications easier.

Robert Rasmussen

Robert is a web application developer specializing primarily in Ruby on Rails and other agile web development frameworks including merb and django. He's been developing, deploying, and troubleshooting web applications for 10 years and knows how to bend them to his will.

Bruce Williams

A Ruby developer since 2001, Bruce has been pleased to see his favorite language rise out of obscurity the last few years -- and pay the bills in the process. Rubyist at FiveRuns, Bruce also does a bit of independent consulting, has contributed to or served as the technical editor for a number of Ruby and Rails books, speaks at conferences when inspiration strikes, and is an aimless open source hacker and language designer in his copious free time.
