Palestine Freedom Walk - Chicago

Join the Palestine Freedom walk!

Across the United States, AAPER is organizing its First Annual Palestine Freedom Walks for October 17, 2009. The Palestine Freedom Walks will be silent marches, on behalf of an equitable U.S. policy toward Palestine that advances freedom for the Palestinian people.

The Palestine Freedom Walks have two major goals:

First, to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine among Americans who will take part in, sponsor and observe the walks, including your family members, friends, neighbors and community members.

And second, to raise funds for a powerful AAPER online advertising campaign calling for freedom for the Palestinian people.

Like the Freedom Walks during the Civil Rights Movement as well as AIDS Walks and Breast Cancer Walks before them, the Palestine Freedom Walks can have a major impact across the United States.  But for that to happen, we need your full participation.  So please join a Palestine Freedom Walk for early October to show your fellow Americans that the Palestinian people deserve the same freedom that Americans hold dear.  The first step is up to you...

Steps you need to take.......

     1. Register to Walk. This step will hold a place for you in the Chicago First Annual Palestine Freedom Walks on October 17, 2009. You will receive a T-shirt that you will wear during the walk.

        2. Recruit Sponsors. This event is to raise funds for a powerful AAPER online advertising campaign calling for freedom for the Palestinian people. The more we raise the stronger it will be. Even though it is not required to participate we are setting a minimum goal of $100 per walker. Remember that this doesn’t have to be all from one sponsor, you can break it up amongst as may sponsors, which are willing to help in such a great and noble cause.

     Two ways to sponsor...

    a. The best is through this site, under the Sponsor Donation section.

   b. The other, can be done by check, made out to AAPER, brought on the day of the event.

     3. Spread the word. Let your friends, family, co-workers and peers know what you will be apart of and show them how they can be apart of it too.

       4. Show up and walk with pride. That's it, that's all you have to do to make a change in the lives of the Palestinian people.

When and Where

The Chicago Palestine Freedom Walk will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:15am - .   This is a 2.5 mile walk.

11:15 -- 11:45 am.  All walkers will sign in at this time, (make sure to bring a copy of your Eventbrite ticket). You will receive your T- shirt and a bottle of water.

11:45am -- 12:00pm. There will be a step- off informative announcement and group photo taken.

12:05 pm - The Walk Will Begin

2:00 -- 2:15pm. Closing remarks

We suggest people take public transportation.  The closest stop on the L to Lincoln Park is the Fullerton stop on the Red/Purple Line.  You can walk east on Fullerton Pkwy into Lincoln Park and then north on Cannon Dr to the meeting point for the Walk.

You can also park at Lincoln Park, though we have told the city it will be 50 cars at the most.  Just take a right at Fullerton Pkwy into Lincoln Park and the parking garage will be on your right.

Rules to Remember

1.      Please bring a photo ID or a copy of your eventbrite ticket. You will not be able to participate with out one of these.

2.      Do not bring signs, posters fliers or any other literature to hand out or display before, during or after the walk. Doing so will have you removed from the walk.

3.      This is a silent walk. Please refrain from singing, chanting or shouting during the walk.

4.      The less you bring the less you will lose. If you can’t carry it through out the event, don’t bring it. All items that are found will be disposed of at the end of the event.

5.      Let’s keep it clean. This is our first annual walk, making a mess is the only reason The Chicago Park District needs to make this our only walk.

6.      Have fun and keep good spirits. If you happen to encounter any type of heckling (I highly doubt it), just smile and do what you are there to do WALK.

7.   As a participant in this walk, any injuries that may occur are on the participant and not the Chicago Park District.
