Nature Daze 2009

Whether you own 1 acre or 500 acres, or if managing your land has ever made you dazed and confused, come out and join us for an enlightening day at the beautiful Freeman property!


Nature Daze is an educational outreach event hosted by the Brown County Native Woodlands Project. This unique field day helps landowners better understand the importance of managing their property to create resilient native habitat that is free of non-native invasive plants. For the 3rd year, Bill and Becky Freeman are hosting this event at their property in eastern Brown County.


Four 25-minute sessions are repeated 4 times in the morning:

Invasive plant identification

    Ellen Jacquart, Director of Stewardship, The Nature Conservancy

Shopping intelligently for your garden and yard

    Ruth Ann Ingraham, Chair of Brown County Native Woodlands Project

Fish & pond management

    Clint Kowalik, Go FishIN' Coordinator, and former Indiana DNR Fisheries Biologist

Managing right-of-ways on your property

    Larry Terrell, Vegetation Right of Way Manager, South Central Indiana REMC &

    Loren Brinkmeir, Wildlife Biologist, National Wildlife Turkey Federation

Sharpening tools demonstration (only once during session 4)

    Tom Tedrowe, Master designer and furniture maker

Return to the Wild will present immediately in the morning.

Three longer sessions (1-2 hours) are offered in the afternoon and run one time:

Nature Daze is a free event. A picnic-style lunch is provided for all attendees. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit down with your neighbors. The lunch is provided by the Freemans as a fundraiser for the Brown County Native Woodlands Project. Donations are welcomed. All proceeds support the Brown County Native Woodlands Project.

From Nashville, IN (approx 20 min):
Take IN 46 east to IN 135S. Travel on IN 135 S about 5.0 miles to Stone Head and turn left (east) onto Bellsville Pike. Travel on Bellsville Pike about 2.2 miles to Grandview Rd. Turn right (east) onto Grandview Road. Travel 4.1 miles on Grandview to the entrance (on the right/north side) at 9491 Grandview.

From Columbus, IN (approx 20 min):
Take IN 46 about 0.6 miles west of I65 to Goeller Rd (first stop light west of I65). Turn left (south) on Goeller Rd. Travel about 2.7 miles to the first stop sign which
will be Bartholomew County Rd 525W. Turn left (south) onto 525W. Travel 0.5 miles to the “T” and turn right (west) onto Youth Camp Road. Travel 0.25 miles and turn left (south) onto Bartholomew County Rd 550W. Travel on 550W 1.5 miles to Bartholomew County Rd 300S (stop sign) and turn right (west). Travel 1.2 miles on 300S to the “T” and turn left (south) onto Bartholomew County 650W. Travel on 650W 0.25 miles and bear right (west) onto Bellsville Pike. Travel 2.0
miles on Bellsville to Bartholomew County Rd 850W and turn left (south). Travel on 850W (it will turn into Brown County 400S) 1.0 miles to the “T” intersection. Turn right (north) onto Grandview Rd. Travel 1.0 mile on Grandview to the entrance (on the right/north side) at 9491 Grandview.
