As a member of the MGSM community we would like to invite you to the fourth of a series of Leadership speaker events sponsored by the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management. Our upcoming speaker is the distinguished Donna L. Friess, PhD.

Dr. Donna Friess, Professor of Communication Studies at Cypress College in California, rose to national and international prominence in the child abuse prevention field when her dramatic story of intervening against her father to protect her four-year-old niece from molestation, came to international attention.  With appearances on Oprah and other TV and radio talk shows, and the release of her autobiography, Cry The Darkness: One Woman’s Triumph Over the Tragedy of  Incest (HCI, 1993), her case reached 100 million people. This case helped focus public attention on the frequency of child abuse.

Dr. Friess has become a spokesperson for children's rights. Dr. Friess was recognized by the United States Justice Department for her work for children and she was nominated for the American President’s Service Award. In 2006, she was appointed by the governor of California to an advisory council for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She is a member of the U. S. Justice Department’s Office of Victims Affairs,Technical Training and Advisory Council.She was named Cypress College Teacher of the year for 2008-2009 school year and was the nominee from her college for Orange County Teacher of the Year. In addition she received the medal of excellance by the National Organization for Staff and Organizational Development for 2009. Her biography appears in Who’s Who in the World , Who’s Who in America,  Who’s Who of American Women, Great Teachers, and others. She has been honored by the California State Senate and the Orange County Board of Supervisors. She is proud of her role as a California Co-Chairperson for the successful passage of the first federal victim’s rights’ bill. She has authored five books and lectures in the U. S. and abroad. She is proud of her doctoral degree from U.S.I. U. which is now Allilant University.
In addition to her work to protect children, Donna Friess is passionate about human communication and how we can do better in our relationships so that we can lead more fulfilling lives. Her book Circle of Love is in its third edition and she can be found in her booth at the L.A. Times Festival of Books each year sharing what she knows with others or she can be found in her classroom where she has enjoyed students across the last 40 plus years!She is an enthusiastic animal lover, traveller,  yoga student, horse back rider and portrait artist. She enjoys a full life with husband, Ken, a former four term mayor, as they revel in their noisy family filled with ten grandchildren.
