3rd Annual Children's Tea

at the Westgate Hotel

Saturday May 9, 2009

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Guest speaker:

Chief District Judge Irma Gonzalez

The Honorable Irma Gonzalez, Chief Justice of the Southern District of California, was born in Palo Alto, CA.  She is the eldest of six siblings, and grew up thinking she would follow in her father's footsteps and become a physician until, during her final years at Stanford undergrad, she realized her strengths lie in the social sciences.  Since graduating from the University of Arizona School of Law, her career has included a Federal clerkship, several years as a Federal prosecutor, several years as an associate attorney in private practice, an appointment as a Federal Magistrate Judge, and an appointment to the California Superior Court.  She is the first female Hispanic judge to be appointed to the Federal bench, which she achieved in 1992.
Judge Gonzalez, a mother and a recent grandmother, is a proud supporter of women in the law, and MAMAS is honored to announce her as its Distinguished Guest and Speaker at its Third Annual Mothers' Day Tea.
