KQED Education Network and The Marine Science Institute present:

SHARKS as PREDATORS: Form vs. Function

a professional Development workshop for teachers of grades 5-8

(lessons are highly adaptable; all educators are welcome)

 Jean-Michel Cousteau9s Ocean Adventures

Come learn about new educational resources for teaching about sharks, the top predators of the sea.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Thematic focus on the form and function of sharks along with their importance as the top predators in the ocean
  • Tips for interactively integrating media into the learning environment
  • Hands-on guidance and practice with Ocean Adventures and Marine Science Institute lesson plans and activities
  • Observation of and opportunity to touch live leopard sharks

A light lunch will be provided; attendees receive lesson plans and a DVD of  the Sharks at Risk episode of Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures  - a co-production of KQED and Ocean Futures Society airing nationally on PBS stations.

KQED Education Network leads the educational outreach effort for the Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures series and has created a multitude of resources to help educators bring the ocean to life for their students.

The Marine Science Institute is a non-profit organization that offers hands-on marine science and environmental education programs to sutdents of all ages throughout the Bay Area.
