Bay Area Mosaic Workshop for American Indian Month

KQED Education Network presents its ongoing series, Bay Area Mosaic, a professional development workshop series designed to help teachers integrate ethnic studies content into the standardized curriculumMosaic presents these educational themes by utilizing PBS films to enhance learning and teaching, with an emphasis in single-subject social studies and language arts.

Come join us for a workshop celebrating American Indian Heritage Month and learn about new media resources for teaching and learning about American Indian content for the classroom.  The workshop will feature the following film:

  • The Way of the Warrior: The warrior has a special place in Native American communities.  This documentary about the warrior ethic explores how Native communities have traditionally viewed their warriors, and why, during the 20th century, Native men and women have signed up for militray service at a rate three times higher than non-Indians.  This film offers a Native perspective during this season when the new Ken Burns series The War brings the subject to the forefront of national attention. 

Focus for 6-12th grade social studies teachers (teachers of other content areas and K-5 are encouraged to attend)
