FETC 2009

FETC, a division of 1105 Media Inc., is one of the largest, most successful conferences in the United States devoted to educational technology. The conference program is carefully shaped to provide educators and administrators an opportunity to explore ways to integrate different technologies across the curriculum – from kindergarten to college – through exposure to the latest hardware, software and successful strategies on student technology use. FETC is designed for teachers, principals and deans, district administrators, curriculum designers, media specialists, technology directors and various other educators.

FETC 2009 will feature:

  • More than 200 Concurrent Sessions Focusing on current and emerging technologies, safety and security, social networking/collaboration, and going green!
  • Nearly 80 Professional Development Workshops targeting 21st century skills.

Conference Registration

Conference registrations are currently being accepted online, by fax or U.S. Mail. Your full conference registration fee includes access to the Opening and Closing Sessions, Eye-Opener Keynote Sessions, Featured Speaker Sessions, and all the Concurrent Sessions, as well as receptions, special events and unlimited entry to the FETC 2009 Exhibit Hall. Opening Session

FETC 2009's Opening Session will be on Thursday, January 22, at 3:30 p.m. in Hall NA1. Come hear this year’s opening keynote speaker, Philippe Cousteau, Chief Ocean Correspondent for Animal Planet, sponsored by Discovery Education along with local, state, and national dignitaries who will share their visions for technology in education. Closing Session

The Closing Session, Saturday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m. in Hall NA1, will bring a new format and face that you will not want to miss! The Chancellor of Public Schools for the Florida Department of Education, Dr. Frances Haithcock, will conduct a Town Hall Meeting. The format will allow questions to be submitted in advance from any interested attendee of FETC to info@fetc.org with the subject line “closing session.”

Concurrent Sessions

FETC has become known worldwide for its outstanding program. This year’s conference will be no exception. Attendees can choose from more than 200 Concurrent Session addressing current and emerging technologies, along with best practices discovered through research and actual classroom experience. FETC 2009 will also highlight breakout sessions that focus on Safety and Security, Social Networking and Collaboration, and Going Green. Featured Speakers

Attendees can choose from a slate of nationally recognized speakers who will address current topics in educational technology during the Eye-Opener Keynotes and Features Speaker Sessions.

Spotlight Sessions

New to FETC this year are "Spotlight Sessions." Attendees can choose from a slate sessions that will focus on up-and-coming technologies, hot topics and trends.

Ticketed Workshops

FETC 2009 is offering nearly 80 full- and half-day lecture, bring your own laptop and hands-on workshops led by local and national experts. These information packed workshops offer participants a chance to explore topics in more depth than time allows in a Concurrent Session. Hands-on workshops will be held in the South Complex of the Orange County Convention Center, and lecture and bring your own laptop workshops will be held in the North Complex. Program Highlights

  • Exhibit Hall Grand Opening and Reception: Join your fellow attendees and presenters at the grand opening of the Exhibit Hall from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009, following the Opening Session. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet with leading education product and service experts to research and gather information on potential solutions to meet school and district challenges.
  • The 2nd Annual DimensionM™ Multiplayer Tournament hosted by: Tabula Digita, Pearson, and FETC: Join us at the FETC Gaming Pavilion for the 2nd annual DimensionM™ Multiplayer Challenge! Educators are invited to check out Tabula Digita’s latest DimensionM™ products as they apply their math skills in the latest 3-D video game world. To become a contestant in this fast paced tournament, sign up at the tournament center located next to Room North 210A in the lobby.   • Assistive/Instructional Hands-on Technology Lab: While at the conference, come explore the latest in Assistive and Instructional Technology in the Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resource System’s (FDLRS) Hands-on Technology Lab. The Lab will be located in room N210A, and be open during regular conference hours.
  • Ocoee Middle School Tour: Florida’s State Demonstration School: Through the actions of the State Legislature and the help of Orange County Public Schools, Ocoee Middle School underwent renovations to transform it into a demonstration school for the state of Florida. In an effort to develop a “break the mold/technology-based” facility, this project was assigned to the SMART Schools Clearinghouse and began with extensive discussions on how middle-school-aged children learn and how technology can enhance learning.Ocoee Middle School continues to stay on the cutting edge by piloting many new technologies. A tour of this cutting-edge facility will be offered on Friday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., and will accommodate 75 participants. For more information or to reserve a spot, please e-mail Sharon Calentine.
  • First Timers' Session: New to FETC? Attend the FETC 2008 First Timers’ Session on Thursday, January 22, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in room North 210D to learn important information about the conference and maximize your professional development opportunity.

Exhibit Hall

The Exhibit Hall makes its grant opening on Thursday, January 22, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., following the Opening Session. Attendees will be able to preview and purchase the latest hardware, software and peripherals from the more than 500 companies in attendance. The Exhibit Hall will be opening the following hours:

  • Thursday, January 22 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, January 23 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 24 9:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
