Compassionate Surprise Series: Effective IEP's

The second workshop in the Compassionate Surprise Series will be held on Saturday June 27th from 1-3:30 pm and focus on “Learning to Advocate for an Effective IEP”.  This free educational workshop will be held at the Surprise Senior Center at 15832 N. Hollyhock Street, Surprise, AZ 85374.  Our speaker for this workshop will be Rita Kenison, Director of Education and Training for Raising Special Kids.

The IEP (Individualized Education Program) is a very important document for children with disabilities and for those who are involved in educating them. An effective one should improve teaching, learning and results. Each child's IEP describes, among other things, the educational program that has been designed to meet that child's unique needs and is developed by a team.  This team includes the student, parents, special education teachers, and others.  Still it can sometimes be difficult to advocate for an effective one.

Raising Special Kids is a non-profit organization that helps families of children with disabilities and special health needs in Arizona. All programs and services are provided to families free of charge. At all ages and stages of a child's development, Raising Special Kids supports parents through a variety of services, including individual IEP consultation, training and problem-solving support.

The workshop is free but registration is highly encouraged.  To learn more about this series, and request a reasonable accommodation as soon as possible, please email or call 623-222-2266 (voice) or 480-347-9260 (Video phone for the Deaf).
