Welcome to the registration/information website for the Deaf Pilots Association's 17th annual fly-in Banquet! The banquet will take place at the Spirit of Flight Museum, at Erie Airport in Erie, Colorado.
The banquet is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 17th, 2010, and will conclude after dark - most likely around 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM.
The banquet is the final event for the DPA's week-long fly-in. The fly-in actually begins on Sunday, July 11th, and we will be having a Community Picnic on Monday, July 12th, which is free to attend! You are more than welcome to come, and be sure to bring as many friends and family as you can!
Fly-Ins are events where pilots and airplanes get together in groups to chat about flying, socialize with people, and to participate in fly-outs, which are day-long events where all the pilots and airplanes fly together somewhere, and we bring along as many passengers with us. Anybody is welcome! Young, old, deaf, hearing, disabled or not, man, woman, student, teacher, etc... everyone!
We do this for fun, but we also do it to raise awareness of deafness and to support the growth of deaf pilots!
So we would absolutely love to see you come out and be with us, anytime during the week! But we especially want to see you at the picnic on Monday, July 12th and the banquet on Saturday, July 17th!
The schedule for the whole week is as followed:
Pilots are recommended to begin arriving as early as possible on
Saturday, the 10th, to have plenty of time for aircraft checkouts on
Saturday afternoon/evening, all day Sunday, or Monday morning.
Sunday July 11th and Monday July 12th: On Sunday, pilot preparations (aircraft checkouts, etc) and seminar at Boulder Airport (all are welcome to hang out on Sunday the 11th... but most will be busy - however, you are welcome to attend the seminar if you would like!).
On Monday, some pilots may be completing their aircraft checkouts, but most pilots and airplanes will be flying out for breakfast at Greeley Airport, then arriving at Erie Airport for a community picnic. This event will be advertised and publicized, and is expecting to draw a larger number of people. Just like deaf socials, but much better and more fun! Food, raffle prizes, airplane rides (anywhere from $free to $100 - depending on the pilot, the type of plane, and how long/where you want to fly), and performances! All are welcome and encouraged to attend - the more people come, the better!
Tuesday July 13th and Wednesday July 14th: Fly-outs - destinations are to be determined but total time on the trip will be approximately 4-6 hours, from pre-flight preparations to back at home. Cost will vary anywhere from $50 to $200, depending on length of flight, where we are going, and the pilot's discretion. Seat availability is limited, so please reserve early!
Thursday July 15th: Competition Day and BBQ - pilots will compete with each other for best skills... this will take place at a private airport to be announced before this event begins, or it may take place at Boulder Airport. If we go to a private airport, you may either drive there in your own car, or you can reserve a seat on this flight to go with us if there is a seat availibility. This will be relatively cheap, as it will be a short flight - costs are estimated to be about $50-75. You most likely will not be allowed in the aircraft during competition - however, this is up to the pilot. We will have a free BBQ after competitions, with an award ceremony.
Friday, July 16th - Fly-out - destination is to be determined but total time on the trip will be approximately 4-6 hours, from pre-flight preparations to back at home. Cost will vary anywhere from $50 to $200, depending on length of flight, where we are going, and the pilot's discretion. Seat availability is limited, so please reserve early!
Saturday July 17th - The morning will be free-for-all - pilots can arrange to take people for airplane rides on this day if they missed any of the other flights. Also, come out to Boulder Airport for group skydiving, or try flying a glider airplane! You may also arrange for a flight to Erie Airport later in the day. The last official event of the week is a formal Banquet. This will be a wonderful event with good food, good people, and good times! Lots of friendly socializing, stories, pictures, movies, speeches, awards, prizes, etc etc. The banquet has a small entry fee that goes towards helping keep our non-profit organization going, supporting deaf people all around the world obtain their dreams!
