Third Annual Central Valley Dual Language Conference, Saturday, October 10, 2009

The Central Valley Dual Language Consortium offers a yearly professional conference to support the growth and development of dual language programs in the CSU Stanislaus service area and to provide research based information regarding the advantages of dual language education.  The conference will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Stanislaus County Office of Education Peterson Event Center.  The goal and objectives of the Central Valley Dual Language Conference are as follows: 

Conference Goal

To provide dual language professionals and others interested community members the opportunity to expand their knowledge of dual language immersion practices.

Conference Objectives

Participants will:

Receive information, research and methods on ways in they can help parents support their children’s education at home;

Receive information on dual language education and achievement data in relation to their local dual language programs;

Learn how to involve parents in school leadership roles such as English Learner Advisory Committees (ELAC), District English Learner Advisory Committees (DELAC) and School Site Councils;

Learn ways to support parents in become advocates for their child’s dual language program;

Receive information regarding the state and federal accountability systems and how to effectively assess the effectiveness of their own programs;

Receive information regarding creating a “college going culture” in the homes of their students;

Learn how to support the development of student MA theses and projects that focus on the research and program needs of their dual language programs;

Learn ways to seek external funding to develop their dual language programs.
