Science Art

Professor John Hyatt

Tuesday 16 October 2007 @ 6pm

Creative Vision meets Scientific Knowledge.

If you can imagine something can you then make it happen?

Are the answers to the future in the past?

Professor John Hyatt, artist and Director of MIRIAD at MMU (Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and Design) will set out his creative approach for linking Imagination to Knowledge in order to enliven thinking about current environmental problems. Scientists from all sectors and at all levels are invited to come along and use their creativity and knowledge in an "imagination workshop" to find out if collaborative visioning can produce new approaches to environmental questions.

Steam power was vital to Manchester9s industrial development.  With the increasing sophistication of micro-turbines and nano-turbines can steam now be the solution to the problems created by the industrial revolution?  Could the tallest buildings use steam to power themselves? Can Manchester turn its reputation for rainfall to an advantage?  Science meets art to find real solutions to the biggest problems.

This special event is brought to you as part of Manchester Science Festival. The festival aims to enthuse and inspire everyone about science, technology and engineering. See the website for more details -
