Former Central Texas high school football players: Strap on the helmet one more time

Alumni Football USA is organizing Central Texas Alumni Football Weekend on Jan 15-17, 2010 at Elgin & Wimberley.

We are looking for former Central Texas high school football players who want to “Get Back in the Game” and play one more time in front of a crowd with their old high school buddies.  First 40 guys who register and pay at the team meeting make the team.  Ages 18 to 69 ok!  High school rules games complete with officials and 12-minute quarters.  If you want to play one more full gear, full contact game for your old school then register above.  Cost to play is $75.  Site to be announced at a later date.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit Central Texas schools.

Team Meeting/Player Registration Deadline

(Thanks to everyone who attended!)

Thur Nov 12th *7:00pm
Grace Church of the Nazarene
1006 W Koenig Ln
Austin, TX 78757
Bring cash or check made out to "AA USA" for $75 to the team meeting (details above).  Write you name, school, and graduation year on check.  We will answer all of your questions then.   If you cannot attend the team meeting, give your cash or check to someone who will.  ALL ROSTER SPOTS ARE RELEASED IF WE DON'T RECEIVE PAYMENT AT THE TEAM MEETING.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  YOU NEED TO PAY BY THE TEAM MEETING OR BEFORE BECAUSE YOUR TEAM MAY GET "DROPPED" IF NOT ENOUGH PAY BY THEN.  DON'T LET YOUR TEAM DOWN!   If you live out of town, see Player FAQ's below.
*Primary contacts meeting @ 6:30pm

Player FAQ's

1.  Do I have to go to the team meeting?  As long as we receive payment by the team meeting as described above, you do not have to attend, but we'd certainly like you there - and we may want your input on things if certain issues need to be discussed.  If you can't be there, please give your cash or check (with name, school and phone # written on it) to someone who will.
2.  I live out of town, don't know any of the other players, cannot attend the team meeting, but I want to play.  What should I do?  We'd prefer you give your money to someone who will be at the meeting.  However, if that's not an option, you can PayPal $77.50 to alumnigames@gmail.com (extra $2.50 is PayPal fee) wtih your name, school, and phone number.
3.  My roster is full, but I want to play.  What should I do?  First, put your name on waiting list above.  Second, either attend the team meeting for give you check to someone who will with your name, school, and graduation year written on the memo.  We will then do our best to figure out a fair solution.  We will likely draw randomly from the "waiting list."  We will decide at the team meeting.  If enough guys, may be able to form two teams.
4.  Who will coach?  You will likely coach yourselves.  We'll go over this at the team meeting.
5.  How many times do we practice?  We suggest practicing five (5) times.
6   Do we practice without pads?  Yes.
7.  When are the practices?  (New!) The first practices for all teams will be either Dec 12 & 13.  The second practices for all teams will be either Jan 2 or 3.  The dates and times for your first two practices will be posted on www.alumnigames.com within a week of the team meeting.  The next three practices will be determined by your team.
8.  How do we get the equipment?  We provide you with all the football pads/gear you'll need (except for spikes) the day of the game.  Most players come a little early and take their time getting suited up.
9.  What about jerseys?  We have "generic looking" jerseys in about 10 colors and will try to match up your school colors as best as possible.  Most teams just use our jerseys.  Some teams are ordering jerseys on their own and some will borrow from the school.  You can discuss this at the team meeting.
10.  Are practices mandatory?  No.  Just do your best to try to make them.
11.  I live out of town and can't make any of the practices.  Can I still play?  Yes.  We'll ask the team captains to work wtih you on this.
12.  What is the date and time of my game?  (New!) See above!
13.  Are we guaranteed to play the team we're matched up with?  No, some teams do not form for example.
14.  What about safety?  This is play at your own risk.  Thousands of people get hurt and injured playing football each year.  You can get head, neck, spinal injuries, etc to just name a few.  Some people have died from playing football.  We had a high school football player in Austin whose heart stopped beating during a game-and he was just in high school.  And if you haven't played in a while, these risks will even be higher.  You should get checked out by your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to play.  If you have not been physically active for awhile or are over weight, you should be especially careful.  Playing in a  football game again will no doubt be very exciting, but just make that your heart is healthy enough to handle it.  Again, we suggest getting checked out by your doctor.  Also, we do not provide health insurance.  We do not recommend that you play if you do not have health insurance.  You are more than welcome to coach and help out and still be a part of the team.
15.  Who are you guys?  We're football coaches, players, ex coaches, etc who just want to give everyone the opportunity to play in one more football game.  Tim Bishop resides in Austin, TX  and is the West Texas Alumni Games Director.  Bob Cazet resides in Santa Rosa, CA and is President of Alumni Football USA.  We look forward to meeting you at the team meeting.
16.  Who can play?  All graduates of the school can play.  You did not have to have played football in high school to play.
17.  Can I still play on a certain team event if I did not graduate from that school?  No.  You must be an alumni to play for a certain team.  We only make exceptions if you spent at least two years at a the school you want to play for, but did not graduate there for whatever reasons.
18.  My school is not listed, can I still play?  Email the name of your school and who you would want to play to alumnigames@gmail.com.  We review all submissions about once a month.
19.  How many guys do we need for a team?  The exact answer depends on numerous factors.  If you have 30 guys or more who pay at the team meeting, then you have enough for a team.  If you have less than 30, then we it just depends.  To keep this from being an issue, we strongly encourage you to call and get on Facebook to recruit more players.
20.  What happens if my team doens't get enough players?  We again strongly encourage you to recruit other players so that this doesn't happen.  If it does, we'll discuss at the team meeting to figure out the best solution.
