A Day in the Life of a Therapeutic Community - 16th May 2009

A one-day workshop led by representatives from The Brenchley Unit in Maidstone.

We are delighted to be able to present a one day workshop to you about the life of a therapeutic community for people with severe personality disorders. The Brenchley unit is an award winning project, based in Maidstone, which offers an intensive psychotherapy programme developed to treat people with long standing psychological and emotional problems and a history of multiple service use. The therapists working at the project come from a range of modalities such as TA, psychodynamic, group analytical psychotherapy, mentalisation based treatment method, brief therapy and art therapy.

Users of the service are likely to have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, deprivation or loss. This often results in a poor sense of self and a profound mistrust of others, with difficulties in establishing and maintaining satisfying relationships, in leading a fulfilling life or in valuing themselves. This day will introduce you to how intensive psychotherapy within this environment can be extremely beneficial.

We would like to engage you in an interactive day where we can demonstrate how this NICE compliant therapeutic approach works.

For those wishing to qualify as UKCP Psychotherapists this will count towards your psychiatric placement hours

Led by:  Jackie Peet, Lynva Gibert and Suzanne Craddock

Lynva Gibert and Suzanne Craddock are ex members of the Brenchley Unit, they now work as Experts by Experience. This pioneering project involves training mental health professionals to work with persons with personality disorder in a more empathic and effective way.

Jackie Peet is a CTA UKCP registered Psychotherapist, registered mental health and general nurse and has had 27 years of experience in working with persons with severe personality disorder. She works as a Psychotherapist at the Brenchley Unit.
